This is a mug that I threw on the wheel in my home studio here in Durham, NC. After the mug is thrown I put a handle on it and wait for it to dry.
At the appropriate time I paint the mug with various clay slips which are basically clay paints that I’ve formulated.
After that dries again I carve through the piece revealing the relief pattern below.
Then I bisque fire the piece for 12 hours
glaze it and fire it again for another 8 hours.
All mugs are dishwasher and microwave friendly though I do often suggest that folks hand wash because it is gentler.
